Luke Fickell Left Cincinnati In The Dust Immediately After Dana Beers Became A Lifelong Bearcats Fan
This college football season, Dana Beers embarked on a journey across America to find the college to which he'd devote his lifelong fandom. It seemed like a no-brainer that of his finalists — Texas Tech, Michigan State, South Carolina and Cincinnati — he'd choose the Gamecocks, whom he'd seen take down No. 5 Tennessee in person just a few days prior to his commitment. Surely that final official visit would be too much for any other school to overcome.
In the end, though, Dana felt enough of a connection with Cincinnati to pick the Bearcats as his new lifelong squad. And his newfound fandom didn't even make it a week before Luke Fickell told Cincy to kiss his ass and bolted for Wisconsin.
Just brutal scenes. Dana bought at the height of a Group of Five team's run and now won't get to enjoy even one season with the coach who took the Bearcats to the top. This is the college football equivalent of buying Bitcoin a year ago.
This is a great hire for Wisconsin, but you have to feel for Bearcats fans. Even while you know this day is coming at some point, you can't ever really be ready for the day your coach reiterates that you're a stepping stone program and takes a big boy job.
I hope for Dana's sake UC finds someone to take over its program who will do a great job for the next two or three years before also leaving for a better program.
